Bringing home a new puppy is one of life's greatest joys — and one of its most overwhelming moments! Between the excitement and the puppy eyes, it's easy to forget what you actually need. We've put together the ultimate checklist of puppy essentials so you're fully prepared from day one.
1. A Well-Fitted Harness
Skip the collar for walks and opt for a harness instead. It's safer for puppies whose necks are still developing. Look for something adjustable and padded. Browse our Pet Harness Collection for small breed options.
2. A Collar with ID Tags
Even if you use a harness for walks, your pup should always wear a collar with an ID tag. Check out our Pet Collars & Leashes for stylish options.
3. A Leash
A standard 4–6 foot leash is ideal for training. Retractable leashes are not recommended for puppies still learning to walk on a leash.
4. A Crate
Crates provide a safe den-like space for your puppy to sleep and decompress. Choose one with a divider so it can grow with your pup.
5. Food & Water Bowls
Stainless steel or ceramic bowls are easiest to clean and most hygienic. Avoid plastic, which can harbor bacteria.
6. Puppy Food
Choose a high-quality puppy formula appropriate for your dog's breed size. Consult your vet for recommendations.
7. Paw Cleaner
Muddy paws are a puppy guarantee! A portable paw cleaner makes post-walk cleanup quick and easy.
8. Toys
Puppies need mental stimulation and something to chew on. Stock up on a variety — chew toys, rope toys, and squeaky toys.
9. Puppy Pads & Cleaning Supplies
Accidents happen. Enzyme-based cleaners are best for eliminating odors and discouraging repeat accidents in the same spot.
10. A Cozy Dog Outfit for Chilly Days
Small breeds especially can get cold quickly. A soft dog dress or sweater keeps them warm and stylish. Shop our Dog Dresses Collection for adorable options. 💗
